Sita, Rama and Lakshman went to Kausalya’s chamber
Which was now, very dull and somber
Sumithra was consoling Kausalya, as much as she could
She was Lakshman’s mother, a glory to womanhood
She greeted the trio with spirits high
And appreciated their decision without a sigh
“Rama, the stance you have taken is worthy of you
Sita, your kind of women, are very few”
“You will add to the glory of the solar dynasty
My pride, in having such children, knows no modesty
Lakshman, from now onwards Rama is your father
And virtuous Sita will be your mother”
“Serve them, as a servant would serve a King
With your service at hand, they mustn’t miss anything
Serve Rama, as a devotee would serve his God
For Sita, your mother, you always be at guard”
“After fourteen years, when you three return
To see Sita is what my eyes would first yearn
Then they would search for Ram, my beloved son
Only then would they seek you, my dear son”
“Rama and Sita are worthy of your soul
To protect them must be your only goal
In that cause, even if you happen to die
My pride, not sorrow, would soar very high!”
Speaking thus Sumithra, blessed the three of them
Of all wives of Dasaratha she was a rare-found gem
She faced the situation with much wisdom and calm
The very way that would delight her noble Ram
Though she too was in distress, she was well composed
She knew that was the way to face, what fate imposed
She then encouraged Kausalya to bid farewell
Ensuring that, events at the end would turn out well
Seeing Sumithra, Kausalya stopped her tears
And kept at bay unwanted worry and fears
Both of them blessed, The Noble Three
Rama’s concern for His mother became free
Thus Rama was encouraged by His Second Step-Mother
That for His parent’s welfare, He need not bother!
For she was the mother of a valorous lion
And her intellect was firm like that of iron!
Now Rama’s heart was truly free
For Sumitra’s support, He knew, He had no fee
He pressed, with gratitude, His forehead on her palm
Jai Shri Ram! Jai Jai Shri Ram!!
Beautiful poetry! You envisioned it to artistic perfection!!
ReplyDeleteIt's really a big lookover, come to think of it, but most people don't talk about Sumitra's feelings at all. But you did a really nice job.
