Building A Bridge

Nalan built a bridge across the sea
It was a broad one, for everyone to see
The monkeys brought Him, trees, rocks and stones
The work took place in full swing, no more postpones

The ocean God made a particular place shallow
Fearing the attack by Shri Rama's arrow
On that place, Nalan built the bridge
Naturally at that place, the land did ridge

The monkeys brought stones and the stones got drowned
Not knowing what to do, the big monkeys frowned
Hanuman wrote the name of Ram on a big rock
The big rock floated, to the monkeys' shock

Following that the monkeys wrote Rama's name on stones
The stones and rocks drowning were the story of bygones
Not just did they write on rocks, they also did chant
About the power of Rama's name, they also did rant

Not just gigantic monkeys, did the work
A squirrel too worked there, not expecting perk
It took to the bridge, small stones and mud
While the monkeys brought, large rocks in a thud

Rama felt gratitude for the squirrel
For the squirrel taking some trouble
He lifted the squirrel in His Hands
Drew lines on its back, to say thanks

Since then the squirrels have lines on their back
For serving Rama, with their skill and tact
The monkeys got inspired by the squirrel
They decided to stay strong during peril

First day they completed twenty percent of the bridge
Day two they completed forty percent of the bridge
Day three they completed sixty percent of the bridge
On the fifth day they completed, whole of the bridge

The bridge was in length, one hundred yojanas
The bridge was in breath, one ten yojanas
The bridge was strong; the bridge was long
The bridge made the monkeys, sing a  song

The monkeys were dancing at this feat
The monkeys were jumping with their feet
Building a bridge made them ecstatic
They saw that the bridge was fantastic

Hanuman carried Rama across the bridge
Angada carried Lakshman across the ridge
All of the monkey army, crossed the bridge
The monkeys fears were now a smidge

Thus the first bridge was built by Ram
Thus the bridge was crossed by Ram
Jai Shri Ram Jai Jai Shri Ram
Jai Shri Ram Jai Jai Shri Ram
