STEPPING STONES

Concrete Jungle is one of my first two short films. I made them for a competition conducted by ABILITY FOUNDATION. The other film I did along with this is ATTITUDE. Though they did not win any prizes nor recognition, I learnt a lot in the process of making them.

After which I did KRISHNA THE BELOVED and four more videos of the same kind. Three on Lord Rama and one on Hanuman ji, available in my tamil blog iamhanuman.blogspot.com.

Now, I have completed yet another short film ILAIGNARKAL KAIVANNATHIL SWAMI VIVEKANANDAR (SWAMI VIVEKANANDA IN YOUNGSTERS PAINTINGS) for Shri Ramakrishna Vijayam.

Shri Ramakrishna Vijayam is a Tamil monthly magazine run by Shri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai. They conducted a painting competition for youngsters and students as a part of The National Youthday Celebrations. Around 20,000 youngsters participated in it. All of them got certificates and 16 of them won cash prizes. A painting exhibition was also organised with 500 paintings that came for the competition.

My short film records this fabulous event. It comprises of interviews with Swami Gautamananda, President of Shri Ramakrishna Mission, Chennai, The judges and three of the winners alternated by slide shows of some of those beautiful paintings. Duration is about 40 minutes.

As the T-shirt reads in this short film, I have miles to go before I sleep.

  9. Very good work Ramesh, want see a good movie by you, please take some social causes, it will be simple and powerful, I noticed that there is no vehicle near the victim or the cause of it can you elaborate it a little, for a director point of view it’s ok but you have to be a viewer to still make it to reach the public.

I also find that you have some hate with the people and also i see all this things by you is very pessimistic you have to understand that no one will leave a person on the road like that unless and otherwise they haven’t noticed them. Just a thought ……..

    we will talk in detail

  10. Hi da,

Nice to have your comment here.

The cause for the accident can be anything, it necessarily need not be that he was hit by another vehicle. Thats why I have opened the film from the point where you see the fallen bike.

I certainly dont have any hate for people around me. This piece of work is not just my imagination. It is an idea I got from the news I read. Do you know how many accidental deaths happen just because the victim was not admitted in time. And that too because of the hesitation of the public. Even when we shot this film, do you after how long the crowd started to enquire what had happened? There were so many passers went by shedding a pitiful look for me.Only after we shot the whole thing for about 15 to 20 minutes some auto-drivers gathered offering to take me to hospital. That too it was only the auto drivers who came. Not even a single bike or car stopped by.

I've tried to show that a disabled person is helping the victim. Only that is fiction. But the first half has happened many times to many people.

  11. Though I was a non-vegetarian from my early days, have started preferring vegetarian over non-vegetarian in the last few years after knowing the health benefits. Intend to stop non-vegetarian totally one day.

Congratulations on your seventh anniversary of vegetarianism.

    Cheers,
    Sal
