My Lord's Story: Goodness Incarnate

Ramayanam in English poetry.

The Supreme Lord of the Universe was once born on this earth as a Human Being, faced challenges and had His share of pain and pleasure going through both good and bad times like any of us. Like any of us He too, took His turn in laughter and cry.

This humility of The Lord, that makes Him come down to earth and share with us our difficulties to show us a way to handle them is what I admire in Him. This quality of Him, makes me surrender to Him unconditionally and makes me want to sing His Glory on and on and on.

My Lord's Story is an out pour of my devotion that seeps out in gratitude for the pains He took to be a lighthouse for us, to cross the ocean of Samsara.

Hanuman meets Mother Sita

The Night set in, and darkness did creep
That was the time, the city did sleep
Sun had already set and moon was on the rise
Hanuman looked at Lanka, and felt very nice

Lanka as a city was very posh
The mindset of its citizens was very josh
Streets were wide and straight
Either side, buildings were great

Hanuman overall admired the splendid architecture
Every building there had an awesome structure
Every building was bright, with lit up light
Competing with the stars and moon of the night

Hanuman could hear and see, music and dance
Enjoying all sorts of pleasure, people were in trance
Into every apartment, Hanuman did see
The alcohol they consumed, was like a sea

Hanuman searched for Mother Sita, in every nook and corner
Finding Mother Sita, to him, was a matter of honour
The dinner tables of Lankites, were filled with various dishes
Mostly non-shaivite, chicken, mutton and fishes

Not a single building, Hanuman left by choice
In every nook and corner, he did search with poise
As time went by, people went to sleep
In every nook and corner, silence did seep

Hanuman stealthily moved from one place to another
About whether he would get caught, he did not bother
Slowly and steadily, from one place to another, he did walk
Within his mind, motivating himself, he did talk

In one of the apartments, he was hit by wind
Hanuman wanted to know the reason behind
He stealthily entered it and he did see
Kumbhakaran sleeping, with a body like sea

Hanuman was pulled in and pushed out, by Kumbakarna's breath
From the lamps that burned around Kumbakarna, there was wreath
Hanuman spend a moment, admiring, Kumbakarna's body
Kumbakarna was deep asleep after drinking toddy

Hanuman then went to Vibhishana's house
Vibhishana was in worship, along with his spouse
Among all the Lankites, Vibhishana was different
To the norms of religion, His activities were coherent

He seemed to refrain from alcohol and meat
Only Shaivite food, he seemed to eat
The thousand names of Vishnu, he did sing
Unto the feet of Vishnu, he did cling

Hanuman moved on to the next apartment
Carefully looking at each and every compartment
He then entered the biggest palace
Palace of Ravana, the man with malice

Ravana was deep asleep
His wives with him, were in sleep
Ravana was asleep on a golden cot
The place was designed with lavish thought

Away from his wives, sleeping alone, was a dame
Descriptions of Sita and Her's were one and the same
She could be Sita, though Hanuman thought
How could Sita be asleep? a question he brought

The dame who slept alone was Mandodhari, Ravana's wife
The daughter of Maya, who made Ravan, her life
Hanuman bowed to her, realising she was pious
For people who are good, he was always bias

On not finding Mother Sita, Hanuman felt sad
On having to look at other men's wives, He felt bad
Lost in thought, for sometime, Hanuman did sit
There was one place left, he decided to search it

The place he was yet to search was the Ashoka grove
Towards it, with some curiosity, Hanuman did rove
There he saw a lady, sitting, crying and shedding tears
Of not finding Mother Sita, Hanuman dispelled his fears

On the tree under which Sita was sitting Hanuman did climb
Ravana came there with his people, at the very same time
Hanuman was very angry, on seeing Ravan there
That Ravan must not hurt Sita, was his only care

Ravan fell at the feet of Mother Sita, begging for her love
For whatever Ravan begged, Mother Sita would not bestow
Between Ravan and herself, Mother Sita placed a blade of grass
And looking at it, addressed Ravan and said, his desire was gross

"Do not force me, unto what I do not wish
Desire for me, unto you is a poisonous dish
Do not desire me, as I am another's wife
To misery and pain, do not push your life"

"Ravan, you got so many other wives
On you depend, so many other lives
Do not walk the forbidden path
Do not do, the wrongful math"

"My mind is set on my beloved Ram
For him to come for me, I'll remain calm
You can beg plead or threaten me
I'll never be yours, for ever to be"

On seeing Mother Sita's resolute mind
Ravan decided to not be anymore kind
He intimidated her that He would kill
If she does not submit, to his own will

Ravan instructed his guards to intimidate her
Ravan angrily and swiftly walked out of there
For the consequences of his action, he did not care
Not realising he was earning bad karma's share

Hanuman chanted a Manthra, and the gaurds fell asleep
Only Mother Sita was awake. Her sorrow very steep
Tears from her eyes, kept dripping and dripping
To the hope that Rama would come, she was gripping

At that time she heard a sweet voice singing
A good and positive alarm, her mind was ringing
In the tree above her, Mother Sita did search
On the tree, she saw, the small monkey perch

"I am the servant of Shri Ram
Please do keep your mind very calm
I was sent by Dasaratha's Son
The best who comes, In the lineage of the Sun

His hands are long, upto the knee
With lotus like eyes, he does see
His face is black, but challenges the moon
The arrows he shoots, find their target soon

The arrows he shoots, never miss their mark
He looks handsome, though His skin is dark
He has dark hair, that curl around his ear
If he gets angry, The Devas are in fear

Strong and in shape, is His broad chest
In it, is lodged a Heart, that is very best
For all creatures on earth, he does wish well
Ill and bad about people, He would never tell

He always speaks the truth, and never does He lie
The high principles of His life, are lofty like the sky
Even if it is true, He would not speak to harm
Words that come from Him, are always very warm

By thought, speech and action' He is always right
Never will He loose, if He enters a fight
He is good to look and pleasant to the sight
All evil qualities, in His presence take flight

His forehead like His mind, is broad and wide
He always takes a stance, on Dharma's side
He is always selfless, peaceful and cool
When it comes to knowledge, He is no fool

He loved His father, like He loved His life
Like another mother, He looks upon His wife
Like He loves His mother, he loved all of Dasaratha's wives
All of them for His sake, would readily give up their lives

Archery and administration are His favourite arts
Welfare of all life, and beings are His favourite thoughts
When He smiles, a dimple, falls on His cheek
Always energetic and cheerful, He is never weak

Like the vast blue sky is never tainted by dust
Lord Rama's mind and body is never touched by lust
For all men on earth, He is the role model
About His goodness, there can never be a duel"

Mother Sita felt happy, listening to Rama's praise
Looking upto the monkey, her head, She did raise
For a moment, she doubted, whether that would be Ravan
But Her intuition, guided Her, That must be Rama's slaven

Hanuman slowly got down from the tree
And fell at Sita's Feet, in a quick spree
Hanuman stood there with folded palms
Pious and humble, as if seeking alms

Rama's name with love, he did sing
Handed over to Mother Sita, Lord Rama's ring
Sita's confidence in Hanuman, then became stronger
Hanuman explained Rama's journey, this time a bit longer

Hearing to all that Hanuman said, Sita felt relieved
Hanuman like a God to her, she totally believed
An ornament She wore, She gave Him
Questions they had for each other, were now trim

"Hanuman, son of Vayu, and my dear Son
Doubts on me by Rama, you must shun
Tell Him, that Son of Dasaratha, I live for Him
Never will I contemplate suicide with a whim

Lord Rama made me a promise, on our very first night
That He will never look upon another woman, with His sight
He gave it to me as a gift, That he'll be one woman's man
He will never marry another woman, even if He can

So if something happens to me
He will be single for ever to be
That's the reason I never contemplated suicide
I ever want to live, only by His side"

Hanuman safely kept with Him, the ornament she gave
And decided to deliver, to Rama, the message she gave
But before going back, he wanted to know Lanka more
As a messenger of Rama, He wanted to score

Thinking of such things, He remained calm
At Mother Sita, His smile was warm
He wanted to act as a messenger of Ram
Jai Shri Ram! Jai Jai Shri Ram!!
