My Lord's Story: Goodness Incarnate
Ramayanam in English poetry.
This humility of The Lord, that makes Him come down to earth and share with us our difficulties to show us a way to handle them is what I admire in Him. This quality of Him, makes me surrender to Him unconditionally and makes me want to sing His Glory on and on and on.
My Lord's Story is an out pour of my devotion that seeps out in gratitude for the pains He took to be a lighthouse for us, to cross the ocean of Samsara.

Garuda's Help
To attack Lanka, Lord Rama decided
In attacking Lanka, Lord Rama preceded
The monkeys surrounded the fort of Lanka in crores
Their weapons were trees that were plucked from groves
The monkeys' weapons were trees, hills and rocks
They threw their attacks on Lanka, keeping Lankites in shocks
The Rakshashas on the other end, retaliated with swords, spears and knives
They were disappointed that in their own place they had to fight for their lives
Indrajeeth came there in invisible disguise
He came there and fought with despise
Before Rama and Lakshman could realise where he was
He shot Naga Asthras on them, like he was the boss
The Naga Asthras are arrows that have the quality of serpents
Rama and Lakshman fell, because of Naga asthra that torments
The Naga Asthra binded both Rama and Lakshman
Indrajeeth happily went back with his henchmen
Binded by Snakes, Ram and Lakshman lay on the ground
The monkey army did surround Ram and Lakshman around
Sugriva was sad, His eyes filled with tears
Vibhishan came there and dispelled Sugriva's fears
"Ram and Lakshman will wake up, please don't lose heart
Falling in war, for heroes, is a parcel and part
Look at their faces, the vital signs are good
Soon be awake and back on their feet, they should"
As Vibhishan was talking so, Garuda came there
For Ram and Lakshman, He did care
As He came close, the snakes took leave
Ram and Lakshman got relieved, and they did heave
Garuda wiped Ram and Lakshman with his wings
Ram and Lakshman got relieved from the snakes' stings
Like from sleep Ram and Lakshman did awake
Garuda's presence protected them from the snake
Ram and Lakshman were curious who Garuda was
At the correct time to help them, how did he come to pass
Garuda replied to them, that time will tell the truth
Till then they have to think of Garuda as a friend with ruth
Thus Ram and Lakshman fell to deceptive trick
Though they were Gods, to human norms they did stick
Garuda, like a God, came to help Ram
Jai Shri Ram! Jai Jai Shri Ram!!

Angada's Message
Crores and crores of monkeys swarmed around Lanka's fort
To fight, kill and die, they were all sport
Bears along with monkeys were also in the team
Happy, because of the adventure, their faces did gleam
Lord Rama and Lakshman approached the northern gate
Hanuman with his army approached the western gate
Angada with his army approached the southern gate
Neelan along with army approached the eastern gate
After surrounding, all the four gates of Lanka's fort
Angada was chosen by Rama, as a messenger sport
"Child! approach Ravana, this very moment
And tell him to get ready for his death event"
"To submit Sita to me, it is not very late
He can still surely escape an adverse fate"
Saying so Rama sent Angada into Lanka's heart
Angada went with enthuse, to play the messenger part
Angada boldy and bravely entered Ravana's court
And announced that they've surrounded Lanka's fort
He asked for a seat and was provided none
This insult from his heart he did shun
Angada rolled round his tail growing it longer
And made it into a seat that was much stronger
With pride and confidence he sat on it
And explained to Ravana what fate has knit
"It is still not late for you to make amends
On your decision, the fate of Lanka depends
Handover Mother Sita to Rama, Her spouse
If not death cries will be heard in your house"
To pay heed to Angad, Ravana was arrogant
To give up Mother Sita, he was adamant
"Catch this monkey and kill him now
Unto to my feet, if he does not bow"
To catch Angada and kill him, four soldiers ran
But Angad with his might, showed them what he can
Carrying the four men, Angad flew high
Then he shook them off, from the high sky
Angada kicked the tower of Ravana's court
In the cat and mouse game, Angad was a sport
Angad quickly returned to the presence of Ram
Happily saying "Jai Shri Ram! Jai Jai Shri Ram!!"
Two Spies From Ravana
Two spies into the monkey army, Ravana sent
To know the strength of the monkey army, He was bent
Suka and Charana were the names of the spies
They impenetrated the monkey army, in monkey's disguise
Information about the monkey army, they did try to collect
To talk with the naivest monkeys, they did try to select
But Vibhishana easily identified them
Among the Lankites, He was a gem
Suka and Charana, by the monkeys were thrashed
Left, right, and front, by the monkeys they were bashed
Suka and Charana, were brought before Ram
Rama asked the monkeys to stop beating and be calm
Rama gave permission to Suka and Charana
To gather all information, and go to Ravana
"Tell your king, I have nothing to hide
Victory is going to be, on my side"
Saying so Lord Rama dismissed the spies
Suka and Charana, regretted their lies
Suka and Charana went back to their king
And Rama's glory they did sing
Ravana was irritated by their speech
At Suka and Charana, he did screech
He caught them by their necks, very tight
And asked them to disappear from his sight
Suka and Charana realised the greatness of Ram
And wondered how a leader could keep so calm
They realised Ravana was no match for Ram
Jai Shri Ram! Jai Jai Shri Ram!!
Sugriva Fights Ravana
Lord Rama and His armies, to Lanka, they came
To fight a war for Sita, they were game
They all chanted Lord Rama's name
Their fear of death, they did tame
They then climbed the Suvela Hill
From there they could see, Lanka in full
The sun had set and it was night
Lit up by lamps, Lanka was bright
Lord Rama cast His eyes upon Lanka city
Upon going to destroy it, He felt pity
From the top of the Suvela mountain, they could see Ravan's palace
About Lord Rama and His army, Ravan was still callous
On the terrace of His palace, Ravana did sit
Chewing betel leaves and nuts, He did spit
Inspite of Rama's army in Lanka, he was cool
Under estimating his enemy, he was a fool
From Suvela mountain to Ravana's palace, Sugriva did leap
On seeing Ravana, His anger and valour, were very steep
Catching Ravana by His necks, Sugriva did wrestle
With his enthusiasm very high, He did whistle
On the faces of Ravana, Sugriva did punch
The thought of Killing Ravana, Sugriva did munch
Ravan was a formidable opponent, Sugriva realised
Ravana from the core of his heart, Sugriva despised
Ravana and Sugriva for sometime like equals they fought
Punches and verbal assaults on each other they brought
Sugriva realised that Ravana can't be killed then
Sugriva decided to go back to Rama's den
He took the crown of Ravan and returned to Ram
Rama on the other end, could not remain calm
That something might happen to Surgiva, Rama was worried
Once Sugriva came there, to hug him, Lord Rama hurried
"Sugriv, To jump into fight, just like that, you must not
If something happens to you, our mission would be a broken pot
Even if I get Sita, without you, how can I be happy?
Here after your actions must always be snappy"
Ravana's crown at Rama's Feet, Sugriva placed
To honour Rama and dishonour Ravana, Sugriva braced
Ravana saw from His palace and felt insulted
What to do next, with his ministers, he consulted
Thus Sugriva on seeing Ravan, could not remain calm
Bravely braced Ravan into a fight with his arm
Took Ravana's crown and placed it at the Feet of Ram
Jai Shri Ram! Jai Jai Shri Ram!!

Building A Bridge
Nalan built a bridge across the sea
It was a broad one, for everyone to see
The monkeys brought Him, trees, rocks and stones
The work took place in full swing, no more postpones
The ocean God made a particular place shallow
Fearing the attack by Shri Rama's arrow
On that place, Nalan built the bridge
Naturally at that place, the land did ridge
The monkeys brought stones and the stones got drowned
Not knowing what to do, the big monkeys frowned
Hanuman wrote the name of Ram on a big rock
The big rock floated, to the monkeys' shock
Following that the monkeys wrote Rama's name on stones
The stones and rocks drowning were the story of bygones
Not just did they write on rocks, they also did chant
About the power of Rama's name, they also did rant
Not just gigantic monkeys, did the work
A squirrel too worked there, not expecting perk
It took to the bridge, small stones and mud
While the monkeys brought, large rocks in a thud
Rama felt gratitude for the squirrel
For the squirrel taking some trouble
He lifted the squirrel in His Hands
Drew lines on its back, to say thanks
Since then the squirrels have lines on their back
For serving Rama, with their skill and tact
The monkeys got inspired by the squirrel
They decided to stay strong during peril
First day they completed twenty percent of the bridge
Day two they completed forty percent of the bridge
Day three they completed sixty percent of the bridge
On the fifth day they completed, whole of the bridge
The bridge was in length, one hundred yojanas
The bridge was in breath, one ten yojanas
The bridge was strong; the bridge was long
The bridge made the monkeys, sing a song
The monkeys were dancing at this feat
The monkeys were jumping with their feet
Building a bridge made them ecstatic
They saw that the bridge was fantastic
Hanuman carried Rama across the bridge
Angada carried Lakshman across the ridge
All of the monkey army, crossed the bridge
The monkeys fears were now a smidge
Thus the first bridge was built by Ram
Thus the bridge was crossed by Ram
Jai Shri Ram Jai Jai Shri Ram
Jai Shri Ram Jai Jai Shri Ram
Subduing The Ocean
Lord Rama's team just got stronger
With Vibhishan coming in, the team got longer
Between Lanka and them, the sea was the barrier
To reach Lanka, the sea must be the carrier
How to cross the ocean, everybody thought
An idea to the moment, pious Vibhishana brought
He requested Lord Rama to pray to the sea
Whether the ocean God would help them, He wanted to see
Lord Rama accepted that idea as a good one
With the sea God's support, crossing the ocean can be done
Lakshman spread Dharba grass, on the seashore's floor
Lord Rama lay on it, as if knocking a door
A few days went and there was no response
But still with hope, Lord Rama did ensconce
With Rama patiently waiting, a few more days went
No respect for Rama, the ocean's silence meant
Lord Rama reached His patience's brim
The ocean's silence enraged Him
As to why the Ocean God would not respond, He became curious
What ever the reason may be, Lord Rama became furious
"Lakshman get me my bow and arrow
I will subdue this ocean, like it's a sparrow
The ocean does not respond to me, how dare
I will dry up this ocean, with arrows that flare
Mistaking humility for weakness, seems the way
Then from Humility to prowess, I will have to sway
I will shoot arrows that emit fire
Only after the ocean dries, I will retire"
Saying so Lord Rama started shooting his arrows
The arrows fell on the sea, creating harrows
The temperature of the sea was sent up
Water becoming vapour verily went up
Lord Rama kept shooting, a few more arrows of fire
And then He fixed the arrow, of Brahma the Grand shire
Before He shoot it, The ocean God came there
The folly of not responding, He asked Lord Rama to bear
"Oh Dear Lord of grandest stature
Being impassable is my nature
Abiding by it, I was silent
With me, please do not be violent
I will show you the shallowest spot
Building a bridge,for you, is a idea I got
Kindly accept that and forgive me now
Asking forgiveness, at Your Feet I do bow"
"Your apologies though late, I do agree
Where do I shoot this, please do decree
Bramma's arrow cannot be retrieved
Give me a target and you be relieved"
"Lord! In the north there is a spot
Dhrumakulyam, is the name it has got
Sinful people live there for long
Though committing sin they are very strong
Shoot the arrow there, and let them deplete
This task for me, please do complete"
Saying so the ocean God bowed before Rama
Shooting the arrow there, Rama completed the drama
"Nala and Neelan in your team
They can build a bridge, if they team
The ocean is impassable, it may seem
Not for Shri Rama, I do deem"
Thus Shri Rama subdued the ocean
A great step to destroy Ravana's treason
The first bridge in History was built by Ram
Jai Shri Ram! Jai Jai Shri Ram!!

Vibhishana's Surrender
To talk with Ravan, Vibhishan did approach
Not ever fearing that Ravana would reproach
Good thoughts to Ravana, Visbhishan wanted to say
Ravana from his evil path, Vibhishan wanted to sway
"Dear Ravan, My King and my beloved brother
The path that you walk, makes me bother
You have casted your eyes upon another man's wife
I am afraid this will lead to the end of your life
From the day Sita came here,
Very bad omens do appear
I'm afraid you're leading Lanka to destruction
Please do pay heed to Maliyavan's instruction"
"I do not care about your superstitious belief
From your lady like talk, give me some relief
I may be a philanderer
But Rama is just a wanderer
How do you think, my death will come
Let there be in your talk, logic, some
With a mighty army, I am a king
To a bow and some arrows, Rama does cling
How do you think Rama will kill me
I have got a boon for a long life to be"
Saying so, Ravana held Vibhishana in disregard
Vibhishana expressed His difference,in this regard
"You think your boons can save you
But you also got a curses very few
Remember the sad story of Hiranya, now
Consider what happened to Him, I do bow"
Hiranya got some boons, not to be killed
By Humans, animals or Devas, even of they willed
But Narasimma appeared before Him
And killed Him, with just a whim"
"You have not got boons that protect you from men
But you have got a curse, from Anaranyan then
That a Hero who comes in his lineage would kill you
Not just that curse, you've got more curses, numbers few"
"Nandhi, the vehicle of Lord Shiva, has said a curse
That your death would be caused by animal's ofcourse
Vedhavathi while dying, has cursed you
That she would take rebirth and come to kill you"
"I am afraid that Sita, is that Vedhavathi's form
Come here to kill you, following a chaste woman's norm"
Ravan got angry and at Vibhishan, he did yell
Angry words towards Vibhishan, Ravan did tell
"I would've killed that monkey, but you stopped me
Lanka was completely burned, by that monkey
Who was the reason for Lanka to burn
It was you, who talked out of turn"
"Now shut up and get lost, I won't pay heed
Bravery not cowardice, is the moment's need
I will kill you now, If you anymore talk
Out of my eyesight, please you do walk"
To convince Ravan otherwise, Vibhishan, a little more, tried
But to insult Vibhishan a little more, wicked Ravana vied
Vibhishan's self-respect did not allow him to be there anymore
Vibhishan thoughtfully decided not to live in Lanka anymore
Realising Ravan was at the verge of his ends
Vibhishana with His friends, flew across the sea
And they came to the shore, for Rama to see
Vibhishan approached Rama with a surrenderer's norm
Worship unto Rama's Feet, Vibhishan did perform
Rama's praises and name, Vibhishana did sing
On the path of Surrender, Vibhishana did cling
"I am very much hesitant, to accept Vibhishan
Ravan, in his tough times, Vibhishan did shun
Such a brother on our side, how could we trust
Shun him and play safe, we should now, must"
His doubts about Vibhishan, Sugriva so said
Towards Hanuman for opinion, Lord Rama turned His head
"Vibhishan protected my life, in Ravana's court
From Ravan killing me, He stood for me like a fort"
"Also for Mother Sita, when I earlier searched
Worshipping Vishnu in his house, I saw him perched
He can be trusted, Therefore I think
Doubts about his character, we must now shrink"
"Those who come to me in Surrender
Doubts on them will be broken asunder
I will accept them, as my very own
As my relative they will be known"
Saying so Lord Rama, accepted pious Vibhishan
Anyone who surrenders, Rama would not shun
To accept anyone who comes in surrender, is the policy of Ram
Jai Shri Ram! Jai Jai Shri Ram!!

Journey Begins
"To start for Lanka, time is now right
Let's go to Lanka and put up a fight
We must get Sita, as we left her
About Ravan's might we do not care"
Lakshman said so to Rama, with much enthuse
Rama smiled and nodded, He would not refuse
Sugriva instructed his army, to travel down south
About how Ravana must be killed, everyone opened their mouth
They traveled south, through the jungle
Their path with villages, did not mingle
Crores and crores of monkeys, took part in that army
Jumping, singing and talking, they were not smarmy
They traveled for a few days and reached the sea
The army of Sugriva, was as vast as the sea
Not knowing how to cross the sea
Each other their faces, they did see
As to how to cross the ocean, they were all thinking
Numerous ideas in their minds were clinking
There came Vibheeshan, with a surrenderer's norm
Jai Shri Ram Jai Jai Shri Ram
Going back to Rama
Hanuman climbed on a mountain
His enthusiasm, a fresh fountain
From there Hanuman made His leap
The size Hanuman took was very steep
Jambhavan from the other shore, watched Hanuman come
Hanuman waving His hands, and making noise, some
Gave Jambhavan hope that all has gone well
Jambhavan to Angada, good news he did tell
"The way Hanuman comes, gives me a lot of hope
That in the mission, Hanuman did cope
From there He shouts, "Jai Shri Ram"
He, waving His hands, makes me feel warm"
As Jambhavan was saying so, Hanuman came there
With the good news, That He knew, where Sita were
He elaborated at length about all that did happen
The enthuse and Happiness of the troupe did steepen
They decided to go to Lord Rama's presence
And share with Him, of what happened, the essence
The monkey troupe were beyond happy and ecstatic
They celebrated Hanuman for doing something dramatic
On the way back, they saw Madhuvanam, a garden
With fruits, flowers and honey, the garden was laden
Jambhavan told the monkeys to eat as much they want
To stop them from enjoying, nobody, in that place can't
The fruits that hanged from trees, the monkeys did eat
With the honey that was abundant, themselves they did treat
They were proud and smug, that they had achieved a feat
Anyone who tried to stop them, left and right, they beat
A monkey named Dhadhimuka, was in charge of the place
From the monkeys destroying the garden, Dhadhimuka try to brace
But the monkeys beat Him left and right
With Dhadhimuka's men they got into a fight
Dhadhimuka left the spot and ran to his king
About the monkeys trespassing, he at length did sing
To Dhadhimuka's dismay, Surgiva was happy
Sugriva called the act of monkeys: "Snappy"
The monkeys are doing such acts, because they have succeeded
Before bringing good news to us, naughty ways, they've preceded
To let the monkeys behave as they like, to Dhadhimuka, Sugriva, instructed
As to do what next, ideas and plans, Sugriva in his mind, constructed
After ravishing Madhuvanam, the monkeys came to their King's presence
About what had happened, the monkeys explained the essence
Lord Rama and Sugriva listened, to the monkeys keenly
About how Mother Sita, in Lanka, lived very lonely
About Hanuman fighting alone, Lord Rama expressed his concern
That burning Lanka was wrong, Lord Rama did discern
"After talking to Sita, you should've come back silently
You should not have made noise and behaved violently
What would we do, if something had happened to you
The trust we had on you, was not on a very few
Lanka, the city, with fire, why did you burn
On old people, cattle and children, didn't the fire turn
I am happy you came back safely, to me
Victory on your side, was ever to be
Thank you very much for accomplishing the task
In my appreciation and applause, you must bask"
Hanuman handed over the ornament Mother Sita gave
To Lord Rama, creating in Rama, a happy wave
Lord Rama hugged the ornament to His chest
And said to Hanuman, Hanuman was the best
Lord Rama hugged Hanuman and expressed His joy
Hanuman smiled with humility like a happy boy
The next they should do, was to go to fight
With Ravan in Lanka, with all their might
"To go to Lanka, we must start now
Crossing the sea, we should do somehow"
Thus was said, by Sugriva, to Ram
Jai Shri Ram! Jai Jai Shri Ram!!

Burning Lanka
To wreak havoc in Lanka, Hanuman decided
This as part two of His work, Hanuman divided
Large trees from the ground, Hanuman plucked
Huge gates front of buildings, Hanuman kicked
Hanuman was keen on inviting some trouble
His new found courage and strength were now double
To meet Ravan, face to face, was His new plan
To draw attention to Himself, He did all that He can
He uprooted large trees and threw them, here and there
On what could happen to himself, the least did he care
Large buildings and structures, with rocks He smashed
Large temple towers, with uprooted trees, He squashed
To inform Ravan about Him, Ravan's servants ran
They were shocked and surprised, about what a monkey can
Ravan sent His army, kingaras by name
In the wars before that, they had earned fame
To attack Hanuman, the kingaras did surround
And they did attack Him, with weapons all around
Hanuman picked an Iron Pillar and countered their attack
For the army of Kingaras, there was a quiet set-back
Weapons that came to attack Him, Hanuman did brush
Every one of the Kingaras, Hanuman did crush
News reached Ravan that Kingaras were killed
To send forth the next attack, mighty Ravan willed
Jambumali, son of Prahastha, was sent next
Hanuman enthuse increased, He did not get vexed
Jambumali shot arrows, all of which were dodged
One Huge Rock, on Jambumali's chest was lodged
Smashed by the huge rock, Jambumali fell dead
"I am Rama's servant", Mighty Hanuman said
Hanuman saw a temple, its' tower very tall
Hanuman picked a hillock and made the tower fall
News after news came, but none of them were good
Ravan went in to thinking, as to what next, he could
Seven warriors, sons of ministers, Ravan next, sent
On the hope he had on them, Hanuman made a dent
All the seven warriors along with their fleet
Crushing them with rocks, Hanuman did deplete
Ravan then send, war-chiefs, in number five
Crushing them like tomatoes, Hanuman did thrive
Ravan then sent forth, Aksha kumar, His son
But to win Hanuman, in Lanka there were none
Though did Akshakumar, put up a fight
He could not withstand, Lord Hanuman's might
Hanuman simply grabbed him, with his own legs
Smashed his head on a rock, which broke like eggs
Ravan felt devastated, on his son's death
For a moment in shock, he held his breath
Ravan on His son's death, was totally vexed
His another son Indrajeeth, Ravan sent next
Victor over Indra, was what Indrajeeth meant
To conquer a monkey, now Indrajeeth was bent
Indrajeeth shot at Hanuman, the Bramma's arrow
Hanuman respecting it, fell to it like a sparrow
Bramma's arrow didn't hurt Hanuman, but just tied
To tie Hanuman with ropes, Indrajeeth's men vied
Once tied with ropes, Bramma's arrow would loosen
Not knowing this, Indrajeeth men did fasten
Hanuman with ropes, and they felt happy
Not ever realising their action was crappy
Though Bramma's arrow did loosen
And material ropes did fasten
Hanuman remained like he was tied
Not understanding Hanuman, Indrajeeth sighed
Wanting to meet Ravan, Hanuman remained tied
Not because of the ropes, Indrajeeth's men tied
Indrajeeth realised this and decided to play along
Hanuman on the streets of Lanka, was dragged along
Lankites were happy on seeing Hanuman caught
Non can win the Lankites, they wrongly thought
Anyways that moment was theirs to celebrate
In teasing and beating Hanuman, they did collaborate
Hanuman gave them their time and walked silently
He restrained Himself, from acting violently
Meeting Ravan, was the one thing He wanted
So silently within His mind, Rama's name He chanted
Atlast before Ravan, Hanuman was taken
Hanuman could see, Ravan was shaken
Ravan concealed his shock, tried to be normal
Hanuman greeted Ravan, just to be formal
"Hello Ravan, King of Lanka, and mighty warrior
To meet you here, I've crossed a lot of barrier
For the message given by Rama, I am a carrier
As you know, I'm not just a messenger, but also a warrior"
"In Rama's absence, you have abducted his wife
Who to him, is very much His life
You should let go of Her, without a strife
If not, you'll meet, Rama's arrows and knife"
As if hearing a joke, Ravana laughed
Hiding his tension, Ravana coughed
"I am a king with a mighty army
To me you think, Rama can be stormy"
"You destroyed my grove and killed my men
With death penalty, you must be punished then"
Vibheeshana at this juncture politely intervened
On Hanuman's side, Vibheeshana's talk leaned
"The monkey is just a messenger, he must not be killed
He can be punished, if the mighty king willed"
Ravan accepted what Vibheeshana just said
And refrained from, cutting Hanuman's head
Instead Ravan decided to burn the monkey's tail
Not ever realising, that plan would become fail
Servants of Ravan, surrounded Hanuman
Trying to tie clothes on the tail of Hanuman
Hanuman's tail grew, longer, longer and longer
Servant's of Ravan tied His tail, stronger, stronger and stronger
After tying Hanuman's tail as much as they could
They poured oil on it, to light fire, as they would
Some Rakshashi guards, informed Sita, about burning Hanuman's tail
Sita prayed to Agni, That this attempt must fail
Agni conceded to Sita's prayers and remained cool
Hoping to burn Hanuman's tail, Ravan became fool
Hanuman realised that The Fire would not hurt him
Hanuman hurt others with the fire, with just a whim
Hanuman playfully moved, His tail here and there
Ravan's servants were hurt, by the fire, here and there
Seeing that the fire in His tail, burnt what He wanted
Setting fire to buidings, Hanuman swiftly haunted
Hanuman swiftly burned, people and places
Where ever He moved, there were fire's traces
In a short time, He burnt all of Lanka, fast
The destruction He brought, was very vast
Not knowing, with Hanuman, how to deal
The people of Lanka, did helplessly squeal
Only two places did not catch fire
From burning Lanka Hanuman did retire
One place that did not burn was Vibheeshana's house
Second place, was the place of Shri Rama's spouse
After burning Lanka, Hanuman was caught by fear
That the fire could've approached Mother Sita's near
Just then he heard voices of Charanas talking among themselves, from the sky
Of How Mother Sita, and Vibheeshana stayed safe from the fire that burnt high
Hanuman felt relieved and wanted to Meet Mother Sita again
He went to The Ashoka Grove, in search of Mother Sita again
Hanuman did fall at Mother Sita's Feet
Hanuman with Happiness, Mother Sita did greet
"You have accomplished a great feat
It is time for you to now retreat
With all this good news, go back to Ram
And ask Him to follow a Kshathriya's norm"
Hanuman accepted what She said
Touched Her Feet, with His head
He decided to go back to Ram
Jai Shri Ram Jai Jai Shri Ram

Hanuman meets Mother Sita
The Night set in, and darkness did creep
That was the time, the city did sleep
Sun had already set and moon was on the rise
Hanuman looked at Lanka, and felt very nice
Lanka as a city was very posh
The mindset of its citizens was very josh
Streets were wide and straight
Either side, buildings were great
Hanuman overall admired the splendid architecture
Every building there had an awesome structure
Every building was bright, with lit up light
Competing with the stars and moon of the night
Hanuman could hear and see, music and dance
Enjoying all sorts of pleasure, people were in trance
Into every apartment, Hanuman did see
The alcohol they consumed, was like a sea
Hanuman searched for Mother Sita, in every nook and corner
Finding Mother Sita, to him, was a matter of honour
The dinner tables of Lankites, were filled with various dishes
Mostly non-shaivite, chicken, mutton and fishes
Not a single building, Hanuman left by choice
In every nook and corner, he did search with poise
As time went by, people went to sleep
In every nook and corner, silence did seep
Hanuman stealthily moved from one place to another
About whether he would get caught, he did not bother
Slowly and steadily, from one place to another, he did walk
Within his mind, motivating himself, he did talk
In one of the apartments, he was hit by wind
Hanuman wanted to know the reason behind
He stealthily entered it and he did see
Kumbhakaran sleeping, with a body like sea
Hanuman was pulled in and pushed out, by Kumbakarna's breath
From the lamps that burned around Kumbakarna, there was wreath
Hanuman spend a moment, admiring, Kumbakarna's body
Kumbakarna was deep asleep after drinking toddy
Hanuman then went to Vibhishana's house
Vibhishana was in worship, along with his spouse
Among all the Lankites, Vibhishana was different
To the norms of religion, His activities were coherent
He seemed to refrain from alcohol and meat
Only Shaivite food, he seemed to eat
The thousand names of Vishnu, he did sing
Unto the feet of Vishnu, he did cling
Hanuman moved on to the next apartment
Carefully looking at each and every compartment
He then entered the biggest palace
Palace of Ravana, the man with malice
Ravana was deep asleep
His wives with him, were in sleep
Ravana was asleep on a golden cot
The place was designed with lavish thought
Away from his wives, sleeping alone, was a dame
Descriptions of Sita and Her's were one and the same
She could be Sita, though Hanuman thought
How could Sita be asleep? a question he brought
The dame who slept alone was Mandodhari, Ravana's wife
The daughter of Maya, who made Ravan, her life
Hanuman bowed to her, realising she was pious
For people who are good, he was always bias
On not finding Mother Sita, Hanuman felt sad
On having to look at other men's wives, He felt bad
Lost in thought, for sometime, Hanuman did sit
There was one place left, he decided to search it
The place he was yet to search was the Ashoka grove
Towards it, with some curiosity, Hanuman did rove
There he saw a lady, sitting, crying and shedding tears
Of not finding Mother Sita, Hanuman dispelled his fears
On the tree under which Sita was sitting Hanuman did climb
Ravana came there with his people, at the very same time
Hanuman was very angry, on seeing Ravan there
That Ravan must not hurt Sita, was his only care
Ravan fell at the feet of Mother Sita, begging for her love
For whatever Ravan begged, Mother Sita would not bestow
Between Ravan and herself, Mother Sita placed a blade of grass
And looking at it, addressed Ravan and said, his desire was gross
"Do not force me, unto what I do not wish
Desire for me, unto you is a poisonous dish
Do not desire me, as I am another's wife
To misery and pain, do not push your life"
"Ravan, you got so many other wives
On you depend, so many other lives
Do not walk the forbidden path
Do not do, the wrongful math"
"My mind is set on my beloved Ram
For him to come for me, I'll remain calm
You can beg plead or threaten me
I'll never be yours, for ever to be"
On seeing Mother Sita's resolute mind
Ravan decided to not be anymore kind
He intimidated her that He would kill
If she does not submit, to his own will
Ravan instructed his guards to intimidate her
Ravan angrily and swiftly walked out of there
For the consequences of his action, he did not care
Not realising he was earning bad karma's share
Hanuman chanted a Manthra, and the gaurds fell asleep
Only Mother Sita was awake. Her sorrow very steep
Tears from her eyes, kept dripping and dripping
To the hope that Rama would come, she was gripping
At that time she heard a sweet voice singing
A good and positive alarm, her mind was ringing
In the tree above her, Mother Sita did search
On the tree, she saw, the small monkey perch
"I am the servant of Shri Ram
Please do keep your mind very calm
I was sent by Dasaratha's Son
The best who comes, In the lineage of the Sun
His hands are long, upto the knee
With lotus like eyes, he does see
His face is black, but challenges the moon
The arrows he shoots, find their target soon
The arrows he shoots, never miss their mark
He looks handsome, though His skin is dark
He has dark hair, that curl around his ear
If he gets angry, The Devas are in fear
Strong and in shape, is His broad chest
In it, is lodged a Heart, that is very best
For all creatures on earth, he does wish well
Ill and bad about people, He would never tell
He always speaks the truth, and never does He lie
The high principles of His life, are lofty like the sky
Even if it is true, He would not speak to harm
Words that come from Him, are always very warm
By thought, speech and action' He is always right
Never will He loose, if He enters a fight
He is good to look and pleasant to the sight
All evil qualities, in His presence take flight
His forehead like His mind, is broad and wide
He always takes a stance, on Dharma's side
He is always selfless, peaceful and cool
When it comes to knowledge, He is no fool
He loved His father, like He loved His life
Like another mother, He looks upon His wife
Like He loves His mother, he loved all of Dasaratha's wives
All of them for His sake, would readily give up their lives
Archery and administration are His favourite arts
Welfare of all life, and beings are His favourite thoughts
When He smiles, a dimple, falls on His cheek
Always energetic and cheerful, He is never weak
Like the vast blue sky is never tainted by dust
Lord Rama's mind and body is never touched by lust
For all men on earth, He is the role model
About His goodness, there can never be a duel"
Mother Sita felt happy, listening to Rama's praise
Looking upto the monkey, her head, She did raise
For a moment, she doubted, whether that would be Ravan
But Her intuition, guided Her, That must be Rama's slaven
Hanuman slowly got down from the tree
And fell at Sita's Feet, in a quick spree
Hanuman stood there with folded palms
Pious and humble, as if seeking alms
Rama's name with love, he did sing
Handed over to Mother Sita, Lord Rama's ring
Sita's confidence in Hanuman, then became stronger
Hanuman explained Rama's journey, this time a bit longer
Hearing to all that Hanuman said, Sita felt relieved
Hanuman like a God to her, she totally believed
An ornament She wore, She gave Him
Questions they had for each other, were now trim
"Hanuman, son of Vayu, and my dear Son
Doubts on me by Rama, you must shun
Tell Him, that Son of Dasaratha, I live for Him
Never will I contemplate suicide with a whim
Lord Rama made me a promise, on our very first night
That He will never look upon another woman, with His sight
He gave it to me as a gift, That he'll be one woman's man
He will never marry another woman, even if He can
So if something happens to me
He will be single for ever to be
That's the reason I never contemplated suicide
I ever want to live, only by His side"
Hanuman safely kept with Him, the ornament she gave
And decided to deliver, to Rama, the message she gave
But before going back, he wanted to know Lanka more
As a messenger of Rama, He wanted to score
Thinking of such things, He remained calm
At Mother Sita, His smile was warm
He wanted to act as a messenger of Ram
Jai Shri Ram! Jai Jai Shri Ram!!

Hanuman's mighty leap
Hanuman in his gigantic form, ran atop a mountain
His enthusiasm and courage were a new found fountain
On the Mahendra mountain, he ran to the top
Hanuman from his actions, there is none who could stop
Like a mountain on a mountain, Hanuman stood on top
The sea like a small puddle, Hanuman decided to hop
Pressing his legs on the mountain, Hanuman did leap
The determination showed by Hanuman, was very steep
Leaping up from the mountain, Hanuman started to fly
From the land and sea level, Hanuman was very high
Like a large rain cloud, Hanuman's shadow fell on the sea
The sea and its waves from top view, Hanuman did see
Like an eagle on its flight, Hanuman traveled fast
Like a mountain, in flight, His size was very vast
The sun wanting to help Hanuman, hid behind a cloud
The holy name of Shri Rama, Hanuman chanted loud
The wind, father of Hanuman, was a gentle breeze
The opportunity to Help his son, the wind god did seize
On the path of Hanuman, a hill arose from the sea
As an unexpected obstacle, at the hill, Hanuman did see
With his mighty chest, Hanuman banged on the hill
The hill showed no enemity and stood strong still
A person did appear, on the top of the hill
And smiled at Hanuman, with a friendly will
"I am the soul of this mountain, Hanuman dear
Thinking me of a enemy, please don't fear
In the past, there was a time, hills could fly
Threatened were beings, seeing hills fly high
So Indra took his weapon and cut of their wings
The mountains became immovable, loosing their wings
At that time I did not loose my wing, as you can see
Because, The wind, your father, immersed me in the sea
Now I arise from the sea, so that I can help you
You could rest on me and then travel, for minutes few"
The hill being stood there with a smile and folded palms
Requesting Hanuman to take rest, as if seeking alms
Though pleased, the offer, Hanuman turned down
The hill being still smiled and did not frown
On behalf of Rama, Hanuman was doing his best
Until the job is done well, Hanuman would not rest
Hanuman kept flying, determined not to stop
A female giant, named Surasai, on his way did pop
"None can go past me, I have such a boon
Anyone who comes my way, should go into my mouth soon"
Saying so Surasai opened her mouth wide
Hanuman, increased his size, on the other side
Surasai opened her mouth, more and more wide
Hanuman kept increasing in size, on the other side
Surasai opened her mouth, wider than ever before
Hanuman became a thumb size, smaller than ever before
He went into Surasai's mouth and came out with a wit
Surasai was surprised, not expecting this a bit
"Your boon is fulfilled, I did go into your mouth
Now stay away from my path, as I travel south"
Surasai liked the way, Hanuman acted with wit
With a open heart and smile, she appreciated it
Hanuman traveled further, flying further high
A giant named Simhika, happily heaved a sigh
Simhika, caught Hanuman by his shadow, deciding to eat
This next challenge, to Hanuman, was an uplifting treat
Hanuman turned back to see
Simhika rising from the sea
Simhika opened her mouth to swallow
Hanuman entered it, as if it was shallow
He then went down her food pipe, as if it was best
And then he came out of her body, tearing her chest
Simhika fell dead, screaming out her life
Hanuman smiled on winning, that petty strife
Hanuman traveled further and on the Lanka Shore he landed
He was capable of taking Lanka, even if he was single handed
He then shrunk his body, to the size of a cat
And stealthily entered Lanka, in order to search that
Lanka's guardian angel, stopped him on his way
About why he was entering Lanka, she asked him to say
" You cannot go past me, as I am on Lanka's guard
Turn around and go away, even if you're God"
Hanuman with his left hand, on her face, he slapped
As an appreciation for Hanuman, the guardian angel clapped
Brahma told me in the past, that a monkey would defeat me
Till then guarding Lanka, in this place, I have to be
"Now that you defeated me, my job here is done
Protecting this place anymore, I have decided to shun
Go into Lanka and do as you please
What ever you want, you will achieve it with ease"
Saying so the guardian angel disappeared in thin air
Hanuman thanked her, for acting very fair
He then decided to do, the bidding of Ram
Jai Shri Ram! Jai Jai Shri Ram!!

Search begins
Sugriva fell at Shri Rama's feet
With smile and respect, he did greet
He apologised for not coming earlier
He couldn't have brought the army earlier
With Sugriva was his full army, now
Crores of monkeys at Rama did bow
Monkeys of various colours and place
Were ready to search for Mother Sita's trace
His army into four groups, Sugriva divided
To send a group in a direction, Sugriva decided
Geography in all directions, Sugriva explained
A leader for each group, Sugriva ordained
Sugriva called for Vinathan, a strong and powerful beast
And asked him to lead the team, that goes in search, east
To search in the direction west
Surgiva felt Sushena would be best
To search in the northern direction
Sugriva gave Sathabali, instruction
To search in the direction south, atlast
Angad was sent, with an army, vast
Along with Angad Hanuman went
Jambavan, the bear, was also sent
His signet ring to Hanuman, Lord Shri Rama gave
Among those who went in search, Hanuman was his fave
Back came the team that went in search, north
Saying, Sita couldn't be found henceforth
Back came the team that went to the east
And said, chances of finding Sita were least
Back came the team, that went in search, west
Saying, searching Sita there, would not be very best
Now on the team that went south, all hope was pinned
That Mother Sita would be South, chances got thinned
Angad, Hanuman and Jambavan, searched, searched and searched
Whenever they needed rest, here and there they perched
Frustrated they became, after searching for long
Not seeing Mother Sita, they could not remain strong
Searching mountains and forests, they kept going
They were very angry, for Ravana's doing
After searching for long, they did feel thirst
And because of hunger, they felt their body would burst
They then saw a cave, from which light did come
The birds that went in and came out were some
So they hoped, there would be water to drink
The hope of finding Mother Sita, was at its brink
They then entered the cave and were surprised to see
The comfort and luxury in that cave was a sea
There was good food to eat and drinks to drink
They enjoyed it, as they were at their hunger's brink
They then saw in the cave a lady, Suyamprabha by name
Through years of austerity, she had made her senses tame
She then adressed and talked to the monkey group
Asking what they were doing there as a troupe
The monkey group explained to Suyamprabha about their mission
That they were searching for Mother Sita, all places, without omission
Suyamprabha said, "those who entered this cave cannot go out alive"
"But because you are servants of Shri Rama, you monkeys can survive"
Suyamprabha asked them to close their eyes and hold each others hands
Within a moment they were out of the cave, and near the sea lands
Suyamprabha wished them good luck and disappeared in a jiffy
The monkeys were surpised on seeing, one side sea and other side cliffy
Not finding Mother Sita, the monkeys lost their heart
Giving up life, to heavens they wanted to depart
About not able to find, Sita or Ravan, Angadan lamented long
Afraid of Sugriva, his uncle, he could not remain strong
"We have searched for a month now
We do not know, to find Sita, how
To Sugriva, we cannot go and bow
Our lives to death, he would certainly tow"
"Jatayu gave up his life, fighting for Mother Sita
We're going to give up our lives, searching for Mother Sita"
Saying so Angad sat down on the ground crying
He seldom realised, there were still chances for trying
Sampathi an old bird, heard what Angad was saying
He wanted to know the story of Jatayu's slaying
Sampathi was Jatayu's elder brother
Jatayu's untoward death made him bother
He approached the monkeys, to get the full picture
Jatayu's death in his heart, was a broken fixture
The monkeys explained to Him the story of Lord Rama
And made him realise, where he fits in the drama
Sampathi sincerely wanted to avenge Jatayu's death
But to fight Ravan, his strength was at dearth
So he decided to help the monkeys, with information, rare
He reassured Angada, that the situtation need not scare
Sampathi and Jatayu were brothers, of the same blood
In the path of adventure, in the past, they did tread
Sampathi and Jatayu, flew high in the sky
To reach to the sun, they both did try
The closer they went to the bright big sun
To protect them from heat, there was none
Sampathi wanted Jatayu to be safe and sound
Sampathi covered Jatayu, with his wings around
Sampathi's wings got burned. And Sampathi fell
Where Jatayu went, Sampathi could not tell
Since all alone, Sampathi lived in the cliff
For the brothers to ever meet again, chances became stiff
Sampathi was assured by Nisagara a sage
That his life would not be for ever a wingless cage
Nisagara told Sampathi to live in the cliff, with patience and hope
Till servants of Rama come there, he should somehow cope
Servants of Rama would come in Sita's search
Till then on the cliff top, Sampathi must perch
Once he gives them, information that is vital
Servants of Rama, would sing Rama's name in recital
Once, by Rama's servants, Rama's name is sung
Sampathi would definitely get his right wing
Then by Rama's servants, Rama's name is sung
Sampathi would definitely get his left wing
So Sampathi talked to the monkeys at length
With the hop that he would get back his strength
"Friends, let me tell you what I know
All the information I can, I will show
But before that please, sing the name of Ram
Singing the name of Rama, make my heart warm
Though the monkeys were surprised at this request
The monkey's sang the name of Rama, at Sampathi's behest
Jai Shri Ram Jai Jai Shri Ram
Sampathi's right wing sprouted and he was calm
Jai Shri Ram Jai Jai Shri Ram
Sampathi's left wing sprouted and he smiled warm
The monkeys were surprised and happy at this change
Their hopes soared high, upto the Himalayan range
Sampathi then said to the monkeys, he did see Ravan
Taking Mother Sita, to his own haven
Sampathi also said after flying high
He could see Mother Sita heaving a sigh
That she is in Lanka, as a captive, kept
Crying and crying, She never slept
The monkeys were both angry and sad
They hated Ravana for being so bad
Information about Sita, after he did say
Sampathi happily started to go his way
The monkeys now started to discuss, what to be done next
They were very happy and were not any more vexed
About Mother Sita, what Sampathi did inform
The monkeys wanted to check and do confirm
So they started to discuss, how they could go across the sea
This challenge that fore stood, was the greatest challenge, to be
Hanuman stood silent, lost in thought
Words of wisdom to him, Jambavan brought
"Hanuman, why do you stay silent, you are the hero
Except for you, chances of crossing the ocean is zero
Remind yourself about the hero you are
To reach to the sun, did you not fly afar"
"Oh Son of Vayu, please rise and shine
For your heroism to come out, time is very fine"
Thus like this, Hanuman by Jambavan was prodded
Recollecting His strength, Hanuman silently nodded
Hanuman decided to cross the very vast sea
And Mother Sita, with His own eyes see
For a moment, in silence, he remained calm
And then he uttered, Jai Shri Ram!
Hanuman took for Himself a gigantic form
Deciding to follow a cunning spy's norm
Determined to take some good news to Ram
He said, "Jai Shri Ram! Jai Jai Shri Ram"

Rainy Season
Sugriva was coronated as the King
Lord Rama's praise he did sing
Lord Rama told him to take some rest
As rainy season was not best
To search Mother Sita, nor to fight
With Ravan and end Shri Rama's plight
Lord Rama wanted Sugriva to enjoy his life
After rainy season, they could take up the strife
Lord Rama told Sugriva that search must start
For Mother Sita, once the rains depart
Once the sky, started to brighten
Search for Ravan, must get tighten
Sugriva agreed and went to his palace
About the promise to Rama, he was not callous
But the comforts of the palace, changed him a bit
Carnal pleasure, wine and fun, he could not omit
On the other hand, Lord Rama waited watching the rain
His enthusiasm and happiness were always at drain
Months went by, one, two, three and four
Drenched completely was the forest's floor
Lord Rama witnessed the beauty of the rain
Missing His beloved Sita, He did strain
He admired the beauty of rain, with His sight
Mother Sita was not with Him, His only plight
In a cave, on the Prasnavagiri hill
Lord Rama and Lakshman stayed still
For the rainy season to go by, they waited
For Sugriva, with his horde of monkeys, they awaited
It rained heavily without a gap
To Rama it seemed like a water trap
From the trees and shrubs, water did drip
Lord Rama was eager to start his trip
In search of Mother Sita and wicked Ravan
Who smugly rests in his own haven
Lord Rama waited, waited and waited, watching the rain
Waiting to Him caused immeasurable pain
Water flowed in streams, every where
Lord Rama wondered of Sita, where she were
The streams took along with them, flowers, leaves and mud
In the sky, because of lightning and thunder, there was a thud
After four months of gloominess, the rain did stop
From dullness to brightness, the sky did hop
Lord Rama's face brightened like the sky
Why Sugriva didn't come, he knew not why
Lord Rama and Lakshman waited for more than a week
With Sugriva not in sight, they felt weak
Lord Rama got angry once few days went
His anger on Sugriva, he was ready to vent
"Lakshman! stupid Sugriva, thinks me of a fool
Not bothering to search Sita, he remains cool
Making love to his wives, he happily sleeps
His promise to us, in a dust bin, he keeps
You go and tell him, to anymore not rest
Start searching for Sita, to him would be best
I have many arrows, like the one that killed Vali
One will find Sugriva too, if his army does not rally"
Lord Rama's anger made Lakshman furious
as to Sugriva's absence, he was curious
"I will go to Kishkindha and teach the monkey a lesson
The pain you suffer from seperation, I will certainly lessen"
Saying so Lakshman walked away from Rama
Lord Rama did want an unexpected twist in the drama
He was afraid, Lakshman would kill Sugriva, in anger
He called out to Lakshman, who had walked, little longer
Lakshman came back to Rama, and asked what he wanted
"Fear that you would kill Sugriva, in my heart has haunted"
Lakshman nodded and smiled at Lord Rama's fear
"To warn him and not kill him, my mind is clear"
To the gates of Kishkindha Kingdom, Lakshman did walk
To the monkeys that were on Guard, Lakshman did talk
"I like to see, Sugriva your king, who is not right
Take me to him, or we shall enter a fight"
While Lakshman was saying thus, there came Hanuman
Lakshman's anger subsided on seeing Hanuman
Lakshman knew Hanuman was a sensible person to talk
He had already dealt with Hanuman, in his life's walk
"What is Sugriva doing, I would like to know
To the promise he made Rama, no interest does he show
I am sure he is having fun with his wives
I can be a threat, to all of their lives"
Hanuman had already warned Surgiva, about Rama's anger
And so, to send for his armies, Sugriva delayed no longer
Sugriva had already sent messages to all the monkey hordes
Messages from all direction had come, that army was on boards
Hanuman explained this to Lakshman, making Lakshman smile
Hanuman took Lakshman to Sugriva, in a short while
Sugriva was drunk and making love to his wives
The very way, seeking pleasure, an ignorant person thrives
On seeing Lakshman, Sugriva showed his humility and care
Out of gratitude and respect, Lakshman was treated very fair
Sugriva apologised to Lakshman, for not giving any news
But an army was already ready with monkeys of different hues
Lakshman then insisted that Sugriva see Ram
The next moment, Sugriva, started to see Ram
Sugriva with his well wishers, went and saw Ram
Happily and loudly singing, "Jai Shri Ram! Jai Jai Shri Ram!!"
Last Moments of Vali
Vali lay on the floor, hurt and in pain
He never thought his life would go in vain
Lord Rama, Lakshman and Hanuman approached him
Vali had almost fainted and his vision was dim
Sugriva sat beside Vali, his eyes filled with tears
Fallen with Vali were Sugriva's hatred, anger and fears
Where Vali was fallen, Tara came to the spot
Crying helplessly and shedding tears that were hot
"Lord, my dear Vali, did I not warn you not to fight
Out of anger on Sugriva, you took my words light
Now leaving me alone, you are going to be gone
What shall I do on this earth, living all alone"
Vali who was fainted, regained his senses
Seeing Lord Rama, his anger knew no pretenses
Vali gathered his strength, and decided to talk
Criticising Rama, about the path Rama does walk
"Rama what kind of person are you
Good qualities in you are very few
Like renunciates and sages you do look
But weapons in your hand, you have took
What harm did I do you, you killed me thus
Was there any problem or tiff between us
On what basis did you take Sugriva's side?
And shot an arrow at me, while you did hide"
Saying thus, His anger on Rama, Vali did vent
In Vali's understanding of Dharma, there was a dent
To make Vali realise his mistake and crime
Lord Rama readily answered, without charging a dime
"Among men on earth, I am the righteous kind
My qualities you can't see, I don't mind
I am a Kshatriya, so I carry weapons
On dutiful people like me, Dharma depends
You may have not offended me
But you already offended my friend to be
You beat up my friend, who fell at your feet
You with reverence and respect, he did treat
He apologised to you for taking your seat
He surrendered, everything to you, clean and neat
But still, you thrashed him without any mercy
And usurped his wife, which is very crazy
Heartlessly you behaved with Sugriva, my friend
You expect mercy from others, when your life is at end
You took your brother's wife and made him a fool
You please do tell me, how is that cool
I killed you sharply while I hid
What is wrong with what I did?
I followed, while killing you, a hunter's norm
I stealthily watched you and attacked, remaining calm"
Not knowing what to say, Vali became silent
He knew with his brother, he had been violent
He did realise, taking Ruma for himself was a heartless act
Lord Rama's words pierced Vali's reasoning with skill and tact
Vali's soul went out of the body and came in
He realised he was suffering, his own sin
Vali could see Rama as Vishnu, in his last moments
Vali accepted in his heart, the change of events
Vali embraced Angada, his own son
The love he shed was a tonne
"Angad, my son, never go against Ram
With Sugriva, you always be very calm"
"Sugriv! my brother, forgive me
Merciless with you, I did be
Now you got my kingdom for your's
I wish you rule it, for many years"
Vali embraced Tara, shedding tears
He was a soul who lived without fears
To Sugriva, he gifted a necklace he wore
As a good brother, at the end, he did score
He embraced all the ones he loved
And to Rama's Feet he bowed
He wanted Angad to realise the greatness of Ram
And so he sung Rama's praise with poetic norm
"Lord Rama, I praise your lotus like feet
You to me, would have been sweet
If only I had been sweet with my brother
About his minor shortcomings, if I did not bother
Oh dear Lord, whose colour is dark
Whose vision in me creates a spark
The spark of wisdom creating light
Destroying ignorance, that made me fight
If to my brother, I had been good
You to me, would have been good
I would've got a chance to serve you
The greatest Lord, whose colour is blue
Oh Great Lord with a broad blue chest
Worshipping and serving you would be the best
Heartless beings do not get a chance
To serve you and experience spiritual trance
Oh Dear Lord, with lotus like eyes
I should've been to my brother very nice
If I had behaved with my brother right
I would have got, a chance to fight
Along your side, as a soldier and hero
But now for me, those chances are zero
In my place, I want Angad my son
To serve the Lord, of the lineage of the sun"
Saying so, Vali breathed his last
The sorrow at the scene was very vast
Vali was placed on a wooden pyre
Angad, son of Vali, lit up the fire
Thus Vali who was arrogant of his strength
Breathed his last, suffering at length
Character not might impresses Ram
Jai Shri Ram! Jai Jai Shri Ram

Slaying Vali
Vali lay in his bed, alongside his wife
Not knowing he was at the end of his life
Vali heard Sugriva, cry out his name
It put Vali, in surprise and shame
Sugriva called out to Vali, challenging the later in fight
Sugriva seemed to have lost, his humility, cowardice and fright
Vali was incensed to an unlimited level
In thoughts of crushing Sugriva, his mind did revel
Vali came out of his palace, running
Blinded by rage, he was not very cunning
He saw Sugriva standing there with hands on his hip
With unbelievable rage, Vali bit his lip
Vali ran towards Sugriva and delivered a tight slap
Sugriva fell on the ground, but his courage did not snap
Sugriva quickly got up from the floor
And a punch on Vali's face, he did score
Vali felt insult more than pain
Fallen by Sugriva's punch, he did regain
His balance within a short time and
Got Sugriva by the neck, with his hand
Both Vali and Sugriva fiercely fought
Insults on each other with words they brought
Each other, their necks with hands they caught
Their bodies entwined like in a knot
Grabbing each other they rolled on the ground
In anger and in pain, they made unlimited sound
For sometime, like equals, they did fight
Sugriva started to feel, things are not right
It soon became clear, that Vali had the upper hand
And that, Vali's attacks, Sugriva could not stand
While Vali was focused in the fight
Sugriva looked around for Rama, within his sight
With Vali beating him left and right
And Lord Rama nowhere seen at sight
Sugriva decided to give up on the fight
And from the fighting scene, he took flight
Sugriva ran ran and ran to his safety spot
Sage Madhanga's ashram was the only place he got
To enter that place Vali did not dare
So Sugriva ran there for his own welfare
Vali went back to his palace
About Sugriva, he was callous
He was happy he won
He thought Sugriva was done
Sugriva on the other hand, was very angry with Rama
Not understanding, the unexpected twist in the drama
Rama had promised Sugriva, that Vali would be slain
And Sugriva trusted Him, without any disdain
Sugriva already knew of Vali's strength
He explained about it to Rama, at great length
But Rama convinced him that Vali can be killed
With a single arrow, if Rama willed
Rama wanted Sugriva to challenge Vali and fight
And promised to kill Vali, once time is right
Sugriva innocently expressed his fear
Rama assured him that Vali's death is near
Rama threw afar, dhundhubi's carcass, with his single toe
Rama shot seven Sala trees standing in a row
Only after being reassured by Rama thus
Sugriva agreed to, at Vali's gate, create fuss
Sugriva never desired to become king
Nor killing Vali, to him, was a feasible thing
All Sugriva wanted, was his fear dispelled
And that in personal life, he happily excelled
Lord Rama was the one who promised him kingdom
And also from fear of Vali, total freedom
Sugriva had his doubts about Lord Rama's strength
Rama had to try, to convince Sugriva, a greater length
Dhundhubi was one of Vali's enemies, in the past
Vali thrashed him and made him, breathe his last
Vali then threw Dhundhubi's body very far
Affirming, with Vali's strength, none can be at par
Dhundhubi's dead body, near Mathanga's Ashram, fell
Enraged by that, a curse, Sage Mathanga did spell
"Dirtying this place, whoever threw this dead body here
His head shall burst, if he comes to this place or anywhere near"
Fearing that curse, Mighty Vali, stayed away from that place
Sugriva took respite there, whenever for his life, he had to race
Now, beaten by Vali, Sugriva did the same
He ran to this place, forgoing anger and shame
Lord Rama, Lakshmana and Hanuman followed Sugriva there
For Surgiva's welfare, they three, sincerely did care
On seeing Lord Rama, Sugriva turned away his face
His face showed, without concealment, anger's trace
"Lord! That I wanted to kill Vali, or become king, did I ever say?
With such ideas, and reassuring promise, you came my way
You threw Dhundhubi's carscass with your toe
And asked me to trust you, in ending my woe"
"Even then I doubted, your capacity to kill Vali
You shot seven trees, standing in the Valley
You convinced me to fight Vali, and that you would kill
Vali with a single arrow, while the fight is going on still"
"I went and challenged Vali, upon you, entrusting my life
I tried my best fighting him, hoping you would end my strife
But all that happened was Vali beating me black and blue
Why you did not shoot him down, I do have no clue"
Though amused a bit, Lord Rama did feel sorry
The promise he made to Sugriva, that He could not carry
Though to kill Vali, Lord Rama had the zeal
There was a valid reason for not keeping the deal
"For not shooting my arrow, I do have a reason
I did not want fate to do some treason
While Vali and You, angrily fought
Who was Vali? was my thought"
"Both of you looked like one and the same
To kill you wrongly, I was not game
From shooting the arrow, I did refrain
From killing Vali, I had to abstain"
Though Sugriva found the reason valid
In expressing his hesitation, he was candid
"Lord! I do not want to kill Vali and become king
Do not tie around my neck, a hopeful string"
"To kill Ravana and get Sita, you could approach Vali
Why do you prefer me before him, reason does not tally
Vali has already defeated Ravana, once in duel
In fulfilling your need, he could be fuel"
"Leave me alone and go to Vali
Let me live safely in this valley
Challenging Vali in duel, is something I can't
Becoming King, is not what I want"
Sugriva said so and remained silent
Rama wanted him shed fear and be violent
Not because violence, was Lord Rama's fave
But because Sugriva with valour, must behave
"Vali is a heartless being, let him be
Character not might, is what I see
You are good, Vali is bad
Good people by my side, I've always had"
"Prefer to live like a hero, not a coward
Valour not fear, must be your path forward
As a coward you can live a thousand years
Better is, a life for an hour, dispelling fears "
"Go and challenge Vali, in duel again
I will help you kill Vali, and kingdom regain
This time go with a garland around your neck
I will fulfill my promise, without a speck"
Sugriva, for sometime was very hesitant
But then he understood, Lord Rama's intent
He still could not see, if he could trust Rama
But he decided that his life should be a hero's drama
Sugriva decided to live for only that day
What ever fate may bring his way
He decided not to be a coward anymore
A short life with valour, was a better score
Sugriva wore the garland, Hanuman gave
To Rama and his friends, he did wave
He decided to break, the fearful cage
And fight with Vali with unlimited rage
Vali to his surprise heard Sugriva's voice
He was surprised, hearing Sugriva's noise
Sugriva seemed to have lost all fear
And to Vali's palace, he came near
Tara, wife of Vali, was caught with fear
She expressed her fear that Vali's death was near
"Lord! Please do not be enraged and get into fight
Sugriva's new found courage doesn't seem right"
"Angada our son, brought me some news
That Rama was with Sugriva, and they were in truce"
"I do not care, even if Lord Shiva is with him"
Saying so to his wife, Vali remained grim
Vali ran towards Sugriva with unlimited rage
Fate against him, had turned a page
With his clenched fists, Vali delivered a blow
Sugriva dodged it easily and smiled with a glow
Fight between Vali and Sugriva again resumed
That Sugriva would loose, Vali wrongly presumed
Sugriva this time, fought with all his might
Not expecting Rama, to help him in this fight
This time, for a longer time, they fought like equal
Vali not realising, to this fight, his death was sequel
Vali did realise, that Sugriva was stronger than ever before
But Vali had not seen defeat, this lifetime, ever before
Lord Rama was happy the way Sugriva fought
Focused on the fight, was Sugriva's thought
Lord Rama could see that Sugriva was truly fearless
For his own life, Sugriva seemed to be careless
At one point, Vali lifted Sugriva, above his head
An arrow pierced Vali's chest, from direction unsaid
Unable to crash Surgiva, Vali fell to the floor
Shocked that, death for him, had opened its door
Vali pulled out of his chest, the arrow
Unable to bear the shock and sorrow
On the arrow he saw The Name of Ram
Jai Shri Ram! Jai Jai Shri Ram!!

Sugriva's Story
Hanuman got up and stood before Lord Rama with folded palms
Feeling satisfied that he had worshipped His Lord as per
norms
Then, about The Brothers’ purpose in the jungle, he decided
to ask
As a loyal servant to Sugriva, He was keen on his task
“Lord! As if searching for something, where do you go?
The reason, You are not in Your regal attire, may I know?
Your moustache and beard, down to your chest, has fully
grown
By which, the time You spent in the jungle is clearly shown
I understand You have taken up some noble goal
Yet, my mind is shattered by questions, please make it
whole”
Hanuman became silent after asking his question
At Lord Rama’s behest, Lakshman explained their mission
“Hanuman! Let me tell you Our story in brief
About why We are in the jungle and why We are in grief
Brother Rama’s coronation was announced by the king, who
knew no defeat
But it was obstructed and stopped by Mother Kaikeyi’s deceit
A boon given to her, by the king, She demandingly asked
Her greed, under love for her son, she cunningly masked
Her son Bharatha’s coronation and Brother Rama’s exile she
wanted
By the king, though shocked and in sorrow, these two boons
were granted
This bitter misfortune, like honey, Brother Rama swallowed
He happily walked out, while His wife Sita and I followed
Though the king himself and the people insisted that He must
rebel
Only in upholding his father’s promise, not wealth, my
Brother did revel
Mother Sita, Brother Rama and I happily lived in the jungle
Visiting ashrams with sagacious people, we did cordially mingle
Then we moved on to Panchavati and settled building a hut
We lived peacefully until Surphanaka came and spoiled that
Towards Brother Rama she amorously advanced
At Mother Sita, she threateningly glanced
After enough warning I cut off her nose
She ran away from the spot shouting her woes
By her Brother Khara’s army, we were then attacked
Brother Rama, single handedly, wiped it with skill and tact
After a few weeks, by a deer, Brother and I were led astray
Mother Sita was lost, by the time, we came back our way
That a prince named Sugriva can help us, we were helpfully told
To the prospect of finding Her with his help, we hopefully
hold
At this point, dear Hanuman, we happen to meet
Your presence, to our dull minds, is an uplifting treat”
On hearing Sugriva’s name Hanuman smiled with enthuse like a
boy
At the prospect of an adventure ahead, his heart jumped with
joy
“Lord! I am that Sugriva’s counselor and friend
I am sure, to your trouble, Sugriva would make amend
Lord! Let me first tell You, the story of Sugriva, my boss
About his misfortune, suffering and unjust loss
Though his story, as Yours, is not as sanctifying and great
He too is good and share’s with You a similar fate
In these jungles, a kingdom called Kishkinda lies
Though run by monkeys, with human civilization it vies
It was ruled by Riksharajas, a monkey of strength and
stature
Until, one day, he left his body and became one with nature
Vali and Sugriva were his two sons
In the sky of his heart they were like two suns
Before his death, elder Vali as the king, he anointed
With much love, pious Sugriva as the prince, he appointed
Sugriva as a loving brother happily and loyally served Vali
well
But why fate played with that good one’s life, I am unable to
tell
Once a demon named Mayavi came to Kishkindha’s gate
And challenged Vali in a duel, driven by bad luck and fate
Vali became furious and thrashed him left and right
Unable to bear the blows, Mayavi took flight
Vali’s anger was not subsided and so he started to chase
To be by his brother’s side, innocent Sugriva started to
race
Vali and Sugriva saw Mayavi fearfully entering a cave
Vali decided to make it, Mayavi’s permanent grave
Vali, from pursuing with the fight, Sugriva politely
obstructed
Surgriva, to wait at the entrance of the cave, Vali
mockingly instructed
Vali entered the deep cave and started to fight with his
rival
Sugriva obediently started to wait expecting his brother’s arrival
Weeks went by, but Sugriva waited without a falter
Other monkeys and I, often went to give him food and water
Loud thuds and yelps, from within the cave, were heard
The fight taking so long to end was mysterious and weird
Months went by and yet Sugriva waited without a fault
It took one complete year for the fight to come to a halt
With a loud cry from Vali, the fighting sound ended
To Sugriva’s heart, great sorrow, and fear they rendered
That, Vali was killed by Mayavi, Sugriva wrongly thought
Visions of Mayavi coming out angrily, his fearful mind
brought
In order to escape from the impending threat
A huge rock from the surroundings he did get
The mouth of the cave, Sugriva tightly shut with the rock
Came back to Kishkinda and revealed his sorrow and shock
Though Sugriva was not in the least interested in his
brother’s seat
That he must become the king, his ministers and citizens did
repeat
After much convincing and coaxing, Sugriva hesitantly
accepted to rule
The monkeys led much happier lives, as Sugriva was polite
and cool
Since Sugriva was crowned only a few weeks had went
Vali rushed into Kishkinda and a furious cry he sent
Seeing Sugriva sitting on the royal throne
To unlimited heights his anger had grown
Sugriva was only more than happy to see his brother
He ran with tears and fell at the feet of his brother
He expressed his joy that his brother had survived
But Vali had lost trust on him and it could not be revived
Vali pushed aside Sugriva and started to thrash
By the fire of Vali’s fury, brotherhood became ash
To words about Sugriva’s innocence, Vali paid no heed
He harshly punished anyone who justified Sugriva’s deed
Out of the kingdom of Kishkinda, Sugriva had to run
Vali took for himself Sugriva’s wife Ruma, for carnal fun
Since then, Sugriva lives in hiding on the Rishyamukha
Mountain
The tear he sheds out of fear and grief is a non stop
fountain
He saw both of You coming and feared You were Vali’s men
I requested him to be in a cave and came to You in disguise
then
Lord! I now see light in his life, as You both have come in
search
Shall we go up to the cave, where Sugriva, my boss, does
perch?”
To meet Sugriva, Lord Rama and Lakshman were eager
Lord Rama had made His decision as the choices left were
meager
They walked uphill to the mountain cave and once they were
near
Hanuman wanted to go in first and dispel Sugriva’s fear
After a moment, Sugriva with his ministers came out of the
cave
Lord Rama saw that he was incapable of wickedness and truly
naïve
With fear, wonder and hope, Sugriva looked at the face of
Ram
On seeing Lord Rama’s smile Sugriva’s heart became warm
Sugriva’s shoulders with affection, Lord Rama gently touched
Lord Rama’s hands, like his final hope, Sugriva tightly clutched
Each the other’s name, simultaneously, They said
Between them, profusely, waves of friendship did flood
Thus Lord Rama met with Sugriva, his lifetime friend
Like fire and air, mutually benefitting, they would blend
Each other in their problems, they would help
Crushing their problems, with their might, to a pulp
Hanuman suggested that They must sit and talk
Towards a shady meadow nearby They did walk
On wooden seats brought by Hanuman, They comfortably sat
About their problems and solutions They started to chat
“Ram! All about You, and Your noble life, Hanuman did say
My fortune, not Your misfortune, has brought You this way
About the abduction of Your wife, I am sorry
We will definitely find Her, please do not worry
Regarding Her, I think we might have a clue
Please give me a moment, I will show it to You”
Saying thus at Hanuman, Sugriva looked
Once Hanuman left, Sugriva in his chat got hooked
“Once my companions and I were sitting on a tree
To our wonder, on the sky, we happened to see
A golden car shaped like a bird was swiftly flying
From within it a woman was lamenting and crying
We saw in it a man, dark, strong and tall, heartless to her
pleas
He looked like, even mighty mountains, he could lift with
ease
With one hand on the golden car and another on his hips
He stood arrogantly with a smug smile on his bloody lips
He seemed to have many heads all with similar faces
He could sprout them out or pull them in like they were his
maces
On all his faces he had moustaches that were kempt
To stare at his large red eyes, none would dare to attempt
His face unlike Yours was cruel, harsh and cold
His body was fully decked with ornaments made of gold
On seeing his muscular arms that were dripping with sweat
That he could take on an army alone, I could easily bet
A yellow saree made of silk, the crying Woman wore
On seeing us monkeys, Her saree, She immediately tore
Quickly removing some of Her jewels, She tightly made a knot
And threw the bundle to us, as if propelled by a very quick
thought
It was clear the Woman was being abducted by the man
To not melt on hearing such cries only a heartless being can
I think She must be Your wife as She did utter Your name
For not listening to Her brother-in-law, Herself, She did
blame”
As Sugriva was speaking thus, Hanuman came with a bundle
On seeing His Wife’s cloth, Lord Rama’s face did dwindle
To Him, seeing the cloth was like seeing His wife
His heart started to pain cut by the longing knife
The bundle was placed on Lord Rama’s outstretched hands
Reminded of His wife’s touch, from His eyes hung tearful
strands
His eyes filled with tears, He could not see the jewel
Missing badly The One, who, in His heart did always dwell
Squeezing His eyelids, He let the tears flow
Trying hard to see, the jewels’ sparkling glow
Like a blind man He touched the jewels and felt
More and more tears flooded as His heart did melt
He could not identify the jewels, with tear after tear
filling His eyes
For help, to identify the jewels, He turned to Lakshman, the
wise
“Do you remember any of them? Lakshman please do see
Tears fill my eyes! And I am unable to think or see!”
Lakshman took in his hands, the jewels one by one
To his Brother’s disappointment, he could remember none
At last when he took the anklets, his thoughtful face
brightened
The reason makes him, among all brothers, stand tall
heightened
“Brother! These anklets are definitely hers!
I can say for sure, without any doubts or fears!
I’ve seen them while worshipping Her Feet and therefore
remember well
I have not much noticed the other ornaments of hers and so I
cannot tell”
That was the kind of devotion, Lakshman had for Sita and Ram
All that he had in mind was to serve Them, as per a slave’s
norm
Hanuman realised the respect Lakshman had for Sita and Ram
Towards Lakshman in salutation Hanuman folded his palm
Lord Rama took those jewels and hugged them to His chest
To the eyes that shed tears, He could not give a rest
By hugging for long those jewels, of His wife’s belonging
He felt like hugging His wife and satiated His Heart’s
longing
He took His wife’s bangles in His hands
He was reminded of His wife’s delicate hands
He thought of how those hands made garlands with flowers
And of how they scrubbed His back while He took His showers
He thought of how He kept those hands for long in His clutch
While His wife leaned on His chest for long and remained as
such
Now missing Her head resting on His chest
Her jewels unto His bosom He did thrust
On the golden earrings in the bundle His eyes awoke
Reminding of the little ears unto which His love He spoke
He thought of how those earrings dangled alongside Her cheek
Reminded of the innocent dimple, while smiling, He became
weak
The anklets reminded Him of Her feet and toes
On which He used to apply Mehendhi in rows
He thought of how His Wife used to feel helplessly shy
While He pulled and kept Her Feet, to decorate, on His thigh
He touched Her beautiful necklace made of the whitest pearls
It reminded Him of Her shoulders on which did fall Her curls
Reminded thus about His gentle wife’s beauty and love
He felt miserable, helpless, and desperate, like a hunted
dove
The Tears rolled down His cheeks like an abundant cascade
By His broad forehead wrinkles of sorrow were made
He pressed the bundle on His forehead as if to make them
straight
His Heart which contained nothing but love was now a
sorrowful crate
On seeing their Lord’s sorrow Lakshman and Hanuman became
sad
Sugriva tried to console his Friend hoping to make Him glad
“Shri Ram! Like a weak person, You must not lament thus
If You, The Lord Himself, loose heart, who will protect us
To my heart that suffered from fear, Your arrival gave hope
But if You, Yourself, be weak, how can Your dependants cope?
Accept me and my friends as Your slave and tell us what to
do
To amend this loss of Yours, we will risk our lives too!”
On hearing such words from Sugriva who was himself in
trouble
Lord Rama decided to be strong, and made His courage double
Lord Rama kissed the bundle and touched His forehead with it
Then handed it to Hanuman to keep it safe in a place that
was fit
Pushing back all sorrow, He became the hero He was
And gathered determination to destroy His misery’s cause
Before taking step to remedy His own loss
He decided to make Sugriva, Kishkindha’s king and boss
“Sugriv! Thanks for the encouraging words you Spoke
Your words to my heart were a caressing stroke
I do not accept you as a slave but as my friend
As a sixth brother in my heart You have tightly blend”
"Let us walk around the Fire and make a vow
That we will be friends, no matter how
Times may come and go, good and bad
We'll be with each other, while happy and sad"
"First let us eradicate Vali who is near
To me, his heartless nature has become clear
Then we'll go for Ravana, the ugly wicked king
In the path of Adharma, who does tightly cling"
Lord Rama and Sugriva, walked around the fire
Their hands tied together, from pieces of their attire
Which meant, they are no more two but one
Lifetime loyalty, for each other they have won
Thus Rama and Sugriva became each other's friends
Each for the other will make necessary amends
And wipe off the suffering what ill-fate had brought
And stay together as friends, tied by the friendship knot
Fate brings people together and near
Propelled by fate, life does steer
Vali's and Ravan's ill-fate brought together Sugriva and Ram
Jai Shri Ram! Jai Jai Shri Ram!!
"Let us walk around the Fire and make a vow
That we will be friends, no matter how
Times may come and go, good and bad
We'll be with each other, while happy and sad"
"First let us eradicate Vali who is near

Lord Rama and Sugriva, walked around the fire
Their hands tied together, from pieces of their attire
