My Lord's Story: Goodness Incarnate

Ramayanam in English poetry.

The Supreme Lord of the Universe was once born on this earth as a Human Being, faced challenges and had His share of pain and pleasure going through both good and bad times like any of us. Like any of us He too, took His turn in laughter and cry.

This humility of The Lord, that makes Him come down to earth and share with us our difficulties to show us a way to handle them is what I admire in Him. This quality of Him, makes me surrender to Him unconditionally and makes me want to sing His Glory on and on and on.

My Lord's Story is an out pour of my devotion that seeps out in gratitude for the pains He took to be a lighthouse for us, to cross the ocean of Samsara.

A philosophical effluence of sorrow!

This song is from one of the very old movies in Tamil.

The hero is a well reputed Medical Scientist well acknowledged for his contribution in discovering cures for some dreaded diseases of his time. Ironically his wife gets hit by blood cancer. He tries his best to save her, but fails. In this scenario he laments through this song which is an out flow of profound wisdom and self consolation.

Poet Kannadhasan had penned the lyrics for this soul stirring song. His simple words are lucid and pregnant with meaning. He was an ardent devotee of Krishna and a pride to all tamilians.

Below is my translation of this song.

If she had to go...
Let her go!
Had there been a soul,
eternal on this earth?

We know they came!
But where do they leave?
We never know the exit!
If all those who had come...
Happen to stay forever…
Will there be a place left,
for us to stay on this earth?

Life is business…
When a soul is born…
It is our income!
And when a soul dies ...
It is our expense!

If they had to go…
Let them go…
Had there been a soul,
eternal on this earth?

The one who lend it…
Wants it back!
If we refuse,
Will he let us go…?
Speaking about their relationship with us…
If we cry for them,
Will he give us back their life?

This can’t be got back by co-operation!
This case won’t win...
If taken to court!
There is no return...
After entering that fort!

If they had to go…
Let them go…
Had there been a soul,
eternal on this earth?

I found medicine…
For various diseases!
Could I find a cure,
For the life that ceases?
If I knew the way…
Would I’ve let her to the pyre?
All alone!

There is one guy!
Above all of us!
The leader!
Who knows what is what!
The artist!
Who scripts the daily plays!

If she had to go...
Let her go!
Had there been a soul,
eternal on this earth?

Hi Ramesh!

Nice translation :)

I personally know that one true love is eternal. So, if their love is of that stature, they will reunite, either in a new birth or better still, as souls who have attained complete moksha and reached Goloak Vrindaavan.

Best wishes :)
